Trump vs. Puerto Rico

Between the many topics I could have chosen, the one I picked was the most intriguing to my person, and most bearable to write about. The subject matter that I decided to research and blog over was the quarrel between President Trump and the Mayor of Puerto Rico, Carmen Yulin Cruz. This article was written by Peter Baker, and it was published by The New York Times. The title of this article, Trump Lashes Out at Puerto Rico Mayor Who Criticized Storm Response speaks for itself.

The tone of this article can be summed up in one word, discouraged. The disappointing part of this topic is that regardless who is in the wrong, very little has yet to be done to help the people of Puerto Rico. Between the two "leaders" of the United States and Puerto Rico, there should be less controversy and more action. Tweeting back and forth is not going to help any of the Puerto Rican's broken-down spirits. Baker writes about how Trump and Cruz are in a heated and intense argument, but he also illustrates a picture of the struggle that the islanders are going through. Limited water, restricted food and hardly any shelter, it is hectic to read about, nevertheless live through it. As days go by, false hope is the last thing Puerto Rico needs. I personally believe that the little we have done as a country is morally incorrect. There have been homes destroyed, and lives ruined. Although I wish this was written to cause more awareness for the help that Puerto Rico needs, it mostly pinpoints the two's argumentative attitudes.

Baker wrote with passion and his work proves that. He had merely every social media encounter regarding this topic written in his article. Peter Baker had multiple great points, for example, when he was describing Mayor Cruz's grievance. Baker did not miss any facts either. From my understanding, I believe that the author was biased, he leaned hard towards agreeing with Cruz regarding how Trump could have been more accommodating to help out oppose to hiding out and or playing golf. In paragraph two, Baker quotes "Mr Trump spent the day at his New Jersey golf club, blasting out Twitter messages defending his response to the storm and repeatedly assailing the capital's mayor, Carmen Yulin Cruz, and the news media" (Baker). Baker's opinion could have been influenced by the media, however, wherever he received his information is not the point because this article speaks volumes of where Peter Baker stands. Nonetheless, Baker did not express his opinion as much as he could have, yet it is still possible to understand who he sided with. This article was detailed and more based on information than it is opinion. I agree with baker because Puerto Rico has gone through too much, and I hope that sooner than later they can recover peacefully.
